From the website's detailed descriptions I can surmise that it's a quasi-military hellhole, full of abuse, humiliation, and the uncontrolled lust for control (why do you think they opened a place like that, anyway?), and probably involving heavy amounts of sodomy behind closed doors.

For what purpose do you ask?

I can't add anything to what others have told you.
You may want to read up on the dangers of Aggregating Distressed Youth. Ample research is available to show that boot camps are ineffective and sometimes (most?) harmful.

A teenager attending the academy did not want to go back so he left the car of his mother and ran into the traffic to die.

No one deserves this outcome, regardless of the situation. Canada is a country that supposedly supports individual rights yet I don't see this individuals rights being rectified in non-destructive manner. I pose this to you the reader, what if this is what the boy was seeking, a final end to the treatment he had overstayed his welcome to. I think I can speak truthfully on behalf of all RLA (Robert Land Academy) students when I say that this school will push you to your limits or edge, and this poor soul was obviously pushed off by the school.

I am a student of Robert Land Academy, I do know the student of Halifax who was killed. Each student of the academy knows eachother, for some to a personal level. As a senior student of the academy, I am aware that it is someone in my section (Each student is devided in to a section (house)) or even possibly the person who lives right next to my bunk. In this news video, the reporter said the student was agitated on his return to the academy. As a student who has been there for 4 semesters, I can very much relate to his feelings, as I am in his same shoes at the moment (I am currently removed from the academy). Each student goes through everyday stresses such as boarding at the academy, a 10 minute phone call to your parents, only once a week and if you are in good standing, and only seeing your family once a month, for some once, maybe twice a year who live across seas. No student enjoys the academy and is under those stresses. I feel this fellow student felt that his stay was not long enough and really did not want to return to the academy. This is my comment of a place that every student hates, but needs. God let my fellow student rest in peace.

In memory of Donald James "DJ" MacNeil

There's also a 1:57 clip of video news footage at the CHCH News article link above. Unfortunately, the above quoted three sentences, and subsequent comments, comprise the entirety of written material from said source.

Halifax teen killed in Ontario
Last Updated: Tuesday, November 30, 2010 | 2:55 PM AT

A Halifax teenager was struck and killed by a car in the town of West Lincoln, Ontario early Sunday evening.

Flags were flying at half-mast Tuesday at the private military boarding school the 17-year-old attended.

Police have not released the teen's name, but said he was returning to school after a long weekend. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Robert Land Academy specializes in helping young men with learning disabilities.

Detective-Constable Jordan Garus with Niagara Regional Police said the accident investigation is ongoing.

"At this time, the collision reconstruction unit with Niagara Regional Police are investigating and we are appealing for witnesses to come forward if they have any information or if they saw this collision," said Garus.

The 42-year-old woman who was driving the vehicle was not injured.

Police have not laid any charges.

Ex-Halifax West QB's death probed
18-year-old died Sunday after being hit by car in rural area of Ontario

By DAN ARSENAULT · Staff Reporter
Fri, Dec 3, 2010 - 4:54 AM

A former quarterback at Halifax West High School died Sunday after being hit by a car in Ontario.

Donald James (DJ) MacNeil was 18.

Niagara Regional Police say he was struck by a car in a rural area about 40 kilometres southeast of Hamilton at 5:55 p.m.

"The investigation is continuing," Const. Nilan Dave of Niagara Regional Police said Thursday.

He said investigators are looking for witnesses and will use computer programs to reconstruct the events that led up to the incident.

MacNeil's obituary indicates he was the child of Leslie Shanahan and Cameron MacNeil. He had one sister.

Dave Kelly, the coach of the football Warriors, said MacNeil played with the team for two seasons before relocating to a private military school in Ontario.

He described MacNeil as a well-liked leader who stood six-foot-three and had a strong throwing arm.

"He had a good brain for the game," he said. "He was a smart kid. He got along with everybody."

Kelly said MacNeil blossomed into the quarterback's role, even though he only started playing the position in high school.

"He played hard when he was on the field, so he kind of led by his play rather than by his words."

Kelly said some former teammates of MacNeil's contacted him this week to see if the could buy their friend's old football jersey. Kelly said he already planned on giving it to MacNeil's father as a keepsake.

MacNeil was attending the Robert Land Academy, a military school in Wellandport, Ont., that has 160 students in grades 6-12.

Hard to say. According to the obit which I'm just about to post, he was almost 19. The obit may have the year wrong, it certainly wouldn't be the first time that's happened, and he was in actuality almost 18.

The latter scenario would fit with all of the above newspaper accounts of the accident, with the first reports noting his actual age (17), and the last one rounding it up to the closest year (18). Whoever wrote the obit (usually a reporter with input from the family or close associates) could have interpreted the rounded up figure as his actual age, and then calculated an incorrect year when given the kid's birthday.

I don't actually know this for a fact, jes' posing the above scenario as one possible way that this kind of error could have been made on the obit. If indeed such an error was made. It could well be that it was the first reports that got that lil detail wrong.

I guess you're just gonna have to wait 'till the SSDI gets updated, but... seeing as this kid is Canadian, I don't rightly know what their version of that might be.
