Can't say. Wish I could but I can't. Anybody know if anything has changed out there lately?

My spidy senses tell me something is going sideways in Beaverton... What's that? Possible Seedling involvement? Ok! We'll get right on it!

Who here is defending elan, after witnessing the emotional wreckage it has left on these folks? I don't think this war here is "pro program" vs."anti program". The only "pro programmers" were Whooter and a couple of knuckle heads from the Cleveland seed, who seem to be long gone from here. No,this is personal. This is Wayne vs. Danny. And if you've been following this, then you know logic and reasoning aren't going to work. A moderator could squash the whole thing but nobody seems to want to. So let the fur fly. (not you Ursus)

That is a fact!

I'm not saying anyone here is still actually involved in any cultic group. It's more like the way people exposed to domestic violence so often wind up in one abusive relationship after another. Yes, this is Wayne v Danny. & it reads a lot like accounts i've seen of a door knocking. @ least that's my take on it.

But who am I to decide for any of you folks what you may or may not say? Es no mi jjob, meign!

Yes, Danny, you do remind me of my older brother, but only when you get into full on director mode. Otherwise, you're usually far more civil to me than he's been since I did the unthinkable & split the program almost 30 years ago.

No, not you. I think you're mostly just reacting. I was talking mostly about the steady presence of people who blow a gasket over criticism of the program. Even if, logically, they agree with our take on it overall. there's another thread in the straight forum, I think, about the program causing arrogance.

Danny, calm down now. Most people won't understand, but you're one of us. I just wish you'd break free of the cult mindset.

When I first saw this thread here:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=39113

I wondered if it was another case of a flame war spreading across forums. It's not. At least I'm as sure as I can be that that's not the connection. Just another case of someone who's among the walking wounded bumping into ideas that threaten their well settled view of events that happened decades ago.

“If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?”
? Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago 1918-1956

Please, folks. We're all brothers and sisters, even those of the other camp (whichever side you might most strongly identify with). Please don't get too upset or drive yourself nuts trying to guess the motivations of others.

Not so fast. I have respect for what people are doing there. Even participate in a few groups. I don't think everyone should run every project just the way we do fornits. I just think someone should... & we're it by default.

No, Danny's never gonna be happy & Ursus is a complete pragmatist who wouldn't waste the time. Again, I can't speak for Ursus but we've talked these things over enough i'll go out on a limb & say we're probably on the same page here. I won't ' spain things to Danny cause I already told the man everything I know. You weren't around for that so I will.

Far out.

BTW, ?????????, clearly we have very different views on the Seed, but that doesn't mean I hate you. You're more than welcome here and, I'm bettin, neveranaddict would welcome you in the above mentioned closed group as well. They just wouldn't tolerate any hostile content. I will. Tolerance, even sincere acceptance, is one of my best tricks.

You're assuming a lot. It's not fear, it's boredom. I don't read the shit any more cause it's all the same; the same as the last barrage, the same as every other Elan flame war, nearly the same as other non-Elan flame wars, etc.

There's a vital difference between an open discussion and a program. In a program, no one can ignore or disagree with staff or group or the perception of what the program line of thinking should be. Out here in the more commonly accepted reality, we're free of all that.

As to the porn, I still haven't run across any. Even if it's totally disgusting, even if it's illegal content, I probably still wouldn't delete it. If I took a side against content that I find to be offensive or unbelievable then I can't rightly let go content that others (including legislators, litigators and other omnipotent moral busy bodies) find offensive. You're making an error in logic when you assume that my or other admins' failure to intervene equates to approval. It simply isn't our place to judge or to use admin abilities to try and influence the content.

As a fellow forum user, I will sometimes advise people that it would be prudent for them to remove certain illegal or extremely inflammatory content because of the legal or other risk they expose themselves to by posting it. But I try to make it very clear that I can't and won't allow myself to be put into a position of liability over other people's posts. If I did, I'd have to stay awake 24/7 and monitor every new post for fear that some joker who doesn't like this site being up will post something illegal and force me to take it down.

What porn? I've been browsing recently updated threads and haven't found any yet.

Usually, we don't edit even that. Nor do we edit racist, threatening or even criminal content. Why? Cause it's not our job to approve or disapprove or to take responsibility for any content. We only try to keep spam, flooding and hacking under control. Your own minds are way beyond the scope of what we do. Ya'll can, however, edit your own posts if you later decide you want to. Also not my call.

« on: February 22, 2012, 11:05:25 AM »
Terry! It's been so long. How good of you to stop by! And thank you for bumping a great topic. Honestly, Stack has a few of the founding details wrong. But it looks like he's only going on the fictional legend Art told us all. The truth is, Art didn't come up with the concept all by himself. He was a hireling, just like Elan's Joe Ricci, Synanon's Chuck Dietrich et. al. His personal perceptions are so similar to so many who have gone through this same coercive thought reform experiment that it's extremely difficult for any objective reader to discount them. You, on the other hand, just throw empty insults without any backing what so ever.

What's your gripe, really? The Seed is dead. Art is dead. Lybbi, last I heard, is working the Program on dogs these days. Why does it so enrage you for others to tell their stories?

Wayne, don't take it personally. Flooding, spamming and other types of denial of service actually are prohibited here (to the best of the admins' ability). We try very hard not to get drawn into disputes among users or to moderate on the basis of content. The only purpose for any kind of moderation in the open forums is to prevent activities that would make the site inaccessible to users.

I can't speak for Ursus, but personally, I'm not scared of Danny or anyone else around here. Ok, I was a little scared when Sue Scheff sued me a few years back. But that all turned out ok for me and for the site, so ....

Anyway, please take a moment or three and read over the FAQ.

My advice, and this is only well intended advice, is that you simply ignore Danny. Just don't respond. Hell, there's even an ignore feature so you don't have to load his or others' posts that you don't want to read. There are more important and more interesting things to focus on than that.
