Like many years ago I use to view the board and discuss the issues. I phoned survivors and became friends again with them. A shocking thing happened. The nightmares got worse, the memories came flooding in, the hatred increased.
It didn't take me long to change my life again and stay away from the board, the subject and deep conversations with survivors. I went on with my life, focused on my family, got some really good friends, a good job and then another shocking thing happened. The nightmares disappeared, the memories were few and far between and the anger subsided.
Having read this you may think, No Duh! Seems like common sense now doesn?t it?
Look the bottom line is this: Where we were sucked and was illegal, nobody cared and they got away with it. In some cases, it has been over 15 years. If it has been that long than plain common sense tells you that they will continue to get away with it. Now, I am not saying that some should try to help those kids in these new programs but as for Straight survivors, move on. Spend time with your family, be the best worker you can, get paid well, and live well. That is the best revenge. They told us all that we would never survive without the program. Show them you have not only survived but also survived well and moved on.
I am actually happy for the first time in a long time. I only visited the board today because I felt for those still hanging onto the past and going over and over it.
Straight is done. What happened cant be changed.
They stole a part of my life I refuse to give them any more time than that.
I prefer to enjoy my family, camping trips, walks and much more.
If you really want to beat Straight than you will not give them even one more second in your head than what they took. Of course, some may really enjoy reliving the misery and rehashing it all might be the extent of their life. How sad.

Every time Straight takes a moment in your day, a moment in your dreams, affects your friendships, your emotions or what you do each day such as discussing it, Straight WINS. It is only when they cannot steal even a second from you that YOU win.

24 years ago, in an intake room at LIFE, my mother gave me the ultimatum; sign myself in or walk out the door w/ the clothes on my back and don't call "home". It wasn't a difficult decision. After all, that had been my idea two years earlier when I'd tried to strike out on my own.

I did put it behind me. I did move on w/ my life. Married, had a couple of kids and was just thankful that I'd gotten away from the crazies. I'd on a drug policy reform list that the Program had shut down. Good to know, I thought, and went about my business.

Then I had a nightmare. Jeb Bush took office as governor of Florida and promised Floridians $100M in publicly funded juvenile drug rehabs. So I had to take a look, like looking under the bed for boogie monsters. Unfortunately, that only made things worse. Turns out it hadn't been my imagination all those years. DARE really is a Program effort. So is all the drug testing in schools, workplaces and the public sector. That Pinkey and the Brain scheme to release bio-engineered fusarium oxysporum (sp?) was also championed by Program affiliated zealots.

These people are extremely influential in public policy. I'll go back to ignoring them when they quit fucking w/ my public tax dollars, my public policy and my children.

Seems fair, no?

Thanks for your counsel, patronization, and associated condescension.  Respectively speaking, I am glad what works for you works for you!  I can only speak for myself in saying throughout all of the many years that I have spent in various forums, on various websites, etc. I have HAD nothing but a life infused with the best of everything, friends, family, a good job, etc...ad naseum.  Who says I haven't moved on?  I have moved on just fine and continue to do so.  I see condescension in any statement that infers that those that frequent here (or any other forum relative to our experiences in respective programs) has no life!!  Fuck you very much!

I will credit your intention to help those of us here with the problems you mentioned as experiencing subjectively.  However, please refrain from objectively imposing your own relative panacea on others here.  

You need not return to 'save us poor survivors that have no life aside than checking fornits all day long'!!!  Please.....................

How is your post any different from those in favor of the program that have posted "Get a Life" type threads?

In closing,  you said "look the bottom line is this"....I stopped listen to others tell me what "the bottom line" is years ago.

Anonymous, to try and act civil about your bullshit is just really pussy of you.  For those of us who think its right not to forget or 'move on' (when are you people really gonna get real and own up to the fact that you're never gonna move on until the U.S. starts being real with us about its child exploitation methods) from what happened at Straight, we have to bare your fuckness moreso.  

There are millions, this moment, who are working on legislation to toll statutes of limitations.  Millions more who are working toward getting our fucked up United States to finally ratify the UNICEF declarations and other articles for Child Wellbeing.  We don't sign it because we're making too damn much fucking money Right Now on the little fuckers and we've got too much at stake.  Mark my words, it will happen though and once those are ratified, I think it will give aid to those lame statutes everyone is working on to get tolled.  

Why, in California, Washington, Texas - there are huge molestation and abuse scandals at child institutions where the statutes are being waived for years because it sometimes takes kids a fucking long ass time to wake up from being fucked for such a fucking long ass time.  Politicians many times work in great sweeps of passing legislation.  So, it is indeed OUR TIME (for all those who are not pretending to be survivors and for those who really are) coming to us at slower speed, where the statutes in many states here in the south might well catch up to the hip northern areas where the law really does still work.

I think I'll hold on to my pain for a bit longer, and when you're not invited to the hearing because you've moved on - I'll take your share of the victory.  This is simply because you're supposing that even though we lived through what Straight Inc. put us through - somehow we are luckily victorious; but the propensity to physically live is stronger than an inherent will to lay it down and die, neverless it's somehow an outside victory (right?).  Why should anyone have to live with that kind of victory??? Doesn't really seem like revenge or victory at all.  Nah, man.  I'm holding out for something better, and as sure as I've written this for you to read - no matter how long or how many lifetimes - I will prevail and get true legal revenge over my oppressors.

In the meantime, I'll be spitting on your face while you're on front row of Dr. Fucktards startover he just gave you.  Enjoy my spit and cursing, and rules rap.

Anon, I hear what you are saying and think it has a valid place. In fact I appreciate it. I think there are two points of veiw here that keep getting crossed.

Like you, I came to the forum to "get some closure", find old friends and share my experience. I, too, am finding that it's pretty easy to get bogged down in remembering those awful times, to the point where I can't work, sleep, eat, etc. I think you're right, the solution is to just stop thinking about it all the time.

But many are here for another purpose as well. They are activists, working to help kids now and in the future, to spare them the torture we experienced. They want to change the political framework that allows this shit to happen. They MUST remember to accomplish this. It is important and comendable.

Just because your agenda is different doesn't mean their's is a waste of life/time.

Again I thank you for the comment, b/c I think it will help me heal from the pain of those times. I'm glad I found fornits' and went through all this, but I, too, am ready to "let it go".

But I am also glad there are people here like Antigen, Wes, Greg and others who are watchdogging and researching these fools...something, apparently, no one has been doing until relatively recently.

I did not go to Straight, I went to CEDU.  Visiting this site has opened a can of worms so to speak, but for me it has been necessary and validating.

Yes, I suppose we could just move on, but our postings have helped many parents reconsider sending their kids to these types of programs and have opened their eyes to the industry as a whole. I feel good about that.  

My parents sent me to CEDU on bad advice of a counselor who had never been there who showed them some beautiful pamphlets of a mountain retreat, full of promises that never materialized. The program was highly unethical, ineffectual, and false in terms of their ability to deliver academic or therapeutic support.  Worse, they caused some permanent damage to our psyches with their abusive practices.

Some of the worst transgressions in history have been perpetuated by people who turned the other cheek.  Apathy allows evil to flourish. There would be no progress without activism.
