My aunt and I are drinking coffee
with him in the kitchen
it has been five days
since the jaws of life opened
his daughter's new car

he's been working more hours
than usual in his shop
I can see the line
where his welder's cap
creases his brow  saddness
hides in the shadows under his eyes

I can cry, he says,
not just at night, but any hour
of the morning or afternoon
sometimes
theres no way I can stop

it's not until we're driving home
that my aunt says,
men have come a long way
it's OK now for them to cry
and I say,
Maybe we're the ones
who've travelled enough distance
to let them

AA books and Coors cans -
Fresh starts, forgotten vows.
Everything of yours
Wears the "hard used" brand
Earmarked by neglect.

Through prisms of tears
Somber shadows and fears
I watch you mount
That same old bronc
And I know He'll kill you yet.

She never shook the stars from their appointed courses
But she loved good men
And she rode good horses.

A shepherd's dog, unskilled in sports,
Picked up acquaintance of all sorts:
Amoung the rest, a fox he knew;
By frequent chat their friendship grew.

Says Renard,'tis a cruel case,
that man should stigmatize our race.
No doubt amoung us, rogues you find,
as amoung dogs, and human kind;
And yet (unknown to me and you)
There may be honest men, and true.
Thus slander tries what'er it can,
To put us on the foot with man.
Let my own actions recommend;
No prejudice can blind a friend:
You know me free from all disguise;
My honor as my life I prize.

By talk like this from all mistrust
The dog was cur'd, and thought him just.

As on a time the Fox held forth
on conscience, honesty, and worth;
Sudden he stopt; and cock'd his ear;
Low dropt his bushy tail with fear.
What's all that clatter on the road?
Bless us, the hunters are abroad!

Hold on, says Dog, we're safe from harm!
'Twas nothing but a false alarm.
At yonder town, 'tis market day;
Some farmer's wife is on the way:
'Tis so, (I know her pye-ball'd mare)
Dame Dobbins, with her poultry - ware.

Renard grew huff.
Says he, This sneer
From you I little thought to hear;
Your meaning in your looks I see.
Pray, what's Dame Dobbins, friend, to me?
Did I e'er make her poltry thinner?
Prove that I own the dame a dinner!

Friend, quoth the Curr, I meant no harm:
Then why so captious? Why so warm?
My words, in common acceptation,
Could never give this provocation.
No lamb (for ought I ever knew)
Maybe more he knows than you.

At this, gall'd Renard winc'd and swore
Such language ne'er was giv'n before.

What's lamb to me? This saucy hint
Shows me, base knave, which way you squint!
If t'other night your master lost
Three lambs; am I to pay the cost?
Your vile reflections would imply
That I'm a Thief! You Dog! You Lye!

Thou Knave, Thou fool, (the Dog reply'd,)
The name is just, take either side;
Thy guilt these applications speak:
Sirrah,'tis conscience makes you squeak.

So saying, on the fox he flies.

The self convicted felon dies.

Banded by the shrouds of Babylon,
The mirage of nomad liberty
And the imposture on the echelon,
Transfixed at the ebb of humanity.

It was a night in early Spring
The winter-sleep was scarcely broken;
Around us shadows and the wind
Listened for what was never spoken.

Though half a score of years are gone,
Spring comes as sharply now as then -
But if we had it all to do
it would be done the same again.

It was a Spring that never came -
But we have lived enough to know -
That What we never had remains;
It is the things we have that go.

I am not resigned to the shutting away of loving hearts in the hard ground.
So it is, and so it will be, for so it has been for time out of mind:
Into the darkness they go, the wise and the lovely.
Corwned with lilies and laurel they go; but I am not resigned.

Lovers and thinkers, into the earth with you,
Be one with the dull, the indiscriminate dust.
A fragment of what you felt; of what you knew,
A formula, a phrase remains - but the best is lost.

The answers quick and keen, the honest look, the laughter, the love -
They are all gone. They are gone to feed the roses. Elegant and curled is the blossom. Fragrant is the blossom. I Know. But I do not approve.
More precious was the light in your eyes than all the roses of the world.

Down, down, down into the darkness of the grave
Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind;
Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave.
I know.
But I do not approve.
And I a not resigned.

Its been years since
but its still in my mind.
Its in my face.
The truth can be traced.
But if proof got erased
the truth can be lied
by the rules they dicide.
Jump off the roof of this place
or stay quite and refined
what ever riot's in your mind
But don't try it in line.
Like a piolet Flying blind
Write my briale to recite
my ryhme
My fingers fail, its hard to find
And when they read my mail
its line for line.
I was there two months and they hardly knew my name.
But I pulled stupid stunts so was the one to blame.
But when I got up to share
they hung heads in shame.
Guess you know I play dirty Just the same.
Don't care if I'm thirty
Cause not then or now are you worthy
to squell my name.
In a concrete tomb.
Three days and Four others to share
I sat with my nose on a wall till noon.
Don't suppose there a small meal soon?
When the OP gaurd twisted my hand backwards up my head
I got a clue.
Truth is
I aint hungry and fuck food.
I'd rather sit in pain and stare at a wall
than deal with you dude.
Understand in this place
(his answer don't confuse you)
Think of yourself as a dog
Its, no, sit boy,
then
He'll abuse you.
Eat off the floor like an animal.
Get used to it.
'Cause Mr. Bailey gets amused when you do it.
See, Mr. Bailey gets fused, when you go threw it.
B, K and C(the Jamacans entire)
tell me I'm wrecked and I'm scared.
I know I'm wrecked
But I'm still admired.
'Cause I got my needs met
and I got my respect.
And I'm not a liar.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They all fall-
Like a million raindrops-
Falling from a blue sky-
Kissing your cares goodbye!
They all fall-
Like a million pieces-
A tickertape parade high-
And now you're free to fly !
Carryin' a millstone malaise-
It's been pulling down your gaze.
You pound the pavement-
It don't give or care-
This weight ain't yours to bear!
Why you holdin' grudges in old jars?
Why you wanna show off all your scars?
What's it gonna take to lay a few burdens down?
It's a beautiful sound -
When they all fall-
Like a million raindrops-
Falling from a blue sky-
Kissing your cares goodbye !
They all fall -
Like a million pieces-
A ticker tape parade high -
And now you're free to fly!
When that muffled sigh-
Says you're barely getting by-
Cut your burdens loose and just simplify-
Simplify.
This is not your floor-
You're going higher than before-
Drop the weight now
Wait
for the lookout guide-
Look outside-
As they all fall-
Like a million raindrops-
Falling from a blue sky-
Kissing your cares goodbye !
They all fall -
Like a million pieces-
A ticker tape parade high -
Now you're free to fly!
You've gotta lay that burden down.
You're gonna lay that burden down.
It's time to leave your burdens in a pyre-
Set a bonfire!
'Cause when you lay your burdens down-
When you lay your burdens down-
When you drop them burdens-
What a free-fall!
What a thrill!
Bury them all
In a landfill!
