Straight and the White House Drug Czars

In 1989 White House Drug Czar Bill Bennett convened some of the best minds in America to help him formulate his proposed drug policy budget for George Bush. He recommended the biggest budget ever, at that time, to combat the Drug War. It called for a 94% increase to $7.9 billion dollars which included a half billion increase for treatment, prevention, and research. Prominent on that distinguished panel of concerned citizens Czar Bennett had assembled was Mel Sembler of Straight and former Straight parent Joyce Tobias of PANDAA.

In 1998 the Drug Free America Foundation (formerly Straight Foundation, Inc.) sponsored the Orlando Conference where former Drug Czars Bennett and DuPont spoke. Does anyone have any idea how much money the DFAF paid these two guys? The DFAF is a charitable organization. If someone wants to check with the IRS, I'm sure that information is obtainable. If someone is interested in checking, please eMail me first as there is other useful data that is needed like is the federal government making grants to the DFAF to do research or other projects?
Of course former White House Drug Czar Robert DuPont had been a paid Straight consultant, so it shouldn't surprise you that former White House Drug Czar Donald Ian Macdonald had been Straight's National Research Director, or that he would declare that everything he learned about drug addiction he learned from George Ross, Straight's former national education director.

Former Drug Czar Carlton Turner spoke at a Straight banquet. In 1992 Channel 13 Eye Witness News in Tampa handed Drug Czar and former governor of Florida Bob Martinez a document from a Straight board meeting which stated that "John Martinez, former governor of Florida will work with Straight on our licensing issues." When asked if it was he the docuemnt referred to Drug Czar Martinez would make no comment.

Former Straight parent Bill Burns used to host Straight Talk, a radio talk show in Northern Virginia which was advertised by PANDAA. Was this the Bill Burns who was on Ronald Reagan's White House Staff?
