: Ginger, considering that I live right outside of DC and this is an election year and George Dubyah is still in the running, is there anything I (and anyone else from around here who is willing) should be doing to try to affect the outcome of the election? Should we address issues in a press release to the Washington Post, and any other major (or minor) newspapers. I think there is more I could be doing, especially considering I am physically in a strategic location. Let me know what you think and I would love to hear anyone else's input as well. Thanks. Kathy

: p.s. I've added a few more updates to my site be sure to check back regularly. (and please give me any feedback if you are having trouble reading anything on that site.)

Yes! Write to the editors, refute misinformation and omisions (like what exactly do these compassionate conservatives mean by the term "treatment, not incarceration"???). That and just keep on networking. The more we all know, the better prepared we'll all be to cast a valid vote.

BTW, I'm doing a little research into just exactly what happens to truants under our current system. I have good reason to believe that the truancy laws and procedures are being used to initiate intervention and investigation and, eventually, bring fresh meat to some of these programs. If you have a good contact for casual discussion on the topic (i.e. teachers, students, school resource officers) I'd very much apreciate any info you might turn up. I'm looking for both anectdotal personal stories (anonymity respected by default) and statistics for various areas.

Thanks,
Ginger
