Ginger,

I think that that's a good move. I would like to put my hat in the ring to do the front-end part of the Straight/SAFE thing. My thought on this is that SAFE/Straight, etc. are very related and for now, at least, should continue together. You once asked for suggestions on what keywords should be used so that people can find this page. And that ties into the relationship of Straight/SAFE, etc. I would propose to say something like this for starters:

Straight, Inc. was a juvenile drug rehabilitation program in which kids aided in their own recovery through brutal, verbal attacks as developed at Synanon Foundation. The Straight method does not imply abuse, although, in fact, all programs which operated under the name Straight, Inc. were accused of abuse. Many programs have emulated methods employed by Straight, Inc. which operated between 1976 and 1993. This does not mean that any of these programs have abused children, though in fact, there have been allegations of abuse at some Straight-like, follow-on programs like Kids of North Jersey. Straight-like treatment methods include many of the following:

(some of these might be some of the keyword searches):

-kids helping kids
-peer pressure got you on drugs, only peer pressure will get you off of drugs
-phase progression
-12 Step
-Rational Emotive Therapy
-indeterminate length of treatment
-host homes
-fund drives
-mic talk
-no talking behind backs
-no contact with parents until client earns back that right
-clients indicting one another and indicitng themselves
-parents indicitng one another and indicitng themselves
-total honesty
-sexual confessions
-kids not allowed to live with parents until they earn back the right
-kids not allowed to go to public school until later phases in treatment
-clients allowed no mail or phone calls or visits
-must pay up front
-parent weekend
-large percentage of counselors are former clients
-small percentage of staff are adult, professionals
-parent volunteers
-kids not allowed to see a doctor without an oldcomer present
-clients not allowed to read newspapers or watch TV
-clients not allowed to talk to one another privately
-parents attending indoctrination RAPS

There are others, I'm just tired now. Of course we could just list all the pre-Straights, Straights, and post Straights.

That's my suggestion.

Wes

: I'm going to be persuing a direction with Anonanon focused on the content reflected in the thread titled "=====> Anonymous tip program compared to Hitler Youth tactics."

: In order to do this without diluting valuable focus on the SAFE, I'm planning to redesign the front page to reflect two (so far) distinct but related issues. That means that the Straight/SAFE, etc. material will have it's own area parallel to the others.

: No urls will change so no need to change bookmarks or anything. If anyone has ideas about how to represent the SAFE/Straight etc. material, either in the front page link and description or in the pages dedicated to it, now's the time to let me know. I can even go so far as to set up a usr/pwd for one of ya'll to maintain or help with this area yourself.

: Thanks,
: Ginger
