WWWBoard Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Here is a brief explanation of some of the questions you may have about WWWBoard.

Terms of Use

"The significance of communication control is illustrated by the collapse of a large psychotherapy organization in immediate reaction to the leadership's loss of effective control over interpersonal communication. At a meeting of several hundred of the members of this "therapeutic community" clients were allowed openly to voice privately held reservations about their treatment and exploitation. They had been subjected to abusive practices which included assault, sexual and economic exploitation, extremes of public humiliation, and others. When members discovered the extent to which their sentiments about these practices were shared by their peers they rebelled" (Ayalla 1985) - excerpted from the Encyclopedia of Sociology entry entitled Coercive Persuasion and Attitude Change.

That's probably why the WWASP web discussion requires that all participants in the discussion be approved before being allowed to read or post messages. And on what basis is approval given or denied, anyway? And by whom?

Well, not matter. This ain't WWASP, nor is it Straight, or Growing Together or any other cult. Those days are over for me. This is a public and unmoderated forum. Here, anyone can read, anyone can post. You can use your real name or a psuedonym. You can say whatever you like or say nothing at all. The email address field is optional.

As your gracious host, I have only one rule; the First Amendment. If you run accross something that you find personally offensive, you can respond to it however you see fit, you can ignore it or you can just choose not to use this service. You cannot control other people's expression or hold me responsible for the words of others. I, as site host, reserve the right to intervene in the case of spamming, flooding or anything that I think might rightly get me hauled off under existing civil or criminal law. But anything that might get me wrongfully hauled off is fair game. I wish someone had been willing to take that chance for me 17 years ago.

Ever your dedicated,
WebMistress

Can I put html tags anywhere in my posts?

No. You can not use HTML tags in any field except body of the message. The maintainer of the script has the option of allowing or disallowing any HTML in the Message part of your posting. If they disallow it, the script will just throw out everything in <>'s. If they allow it, your html markup will appear in the posting. It can't hurt to try.

Why are there colons in the message when I try to post a followup?

Colons appear in the message dialog box when you try to followup up on a message to indicate that those lines are quoting the previous document. The owner of the WWWBoard can decide whether they wish to enable or disable the quoting of previous messages.

Why didn't my post show up?

Your post most likely did not show up, because your browser did not reload the page, it simply pulled it out of cache. Please reload your browser and it should then appear.

Where can I get the scripts for this program?

The scripts are written in Perl and created by Matt Wright. They are free to anyone who wishes to use them and you can get them as well as other scripts at: http://worldwidemart.com/scripts/. Enjoy!
